Middle School Mathematics
Welcome to the Middle School Math Site for HCBE!
The HCBE middle school mathematics program follows the Georgia Standards of Excellence. These standards, when mastered, will provide students with all of the mathematical skills and knowledge that they will need to excel in high school, and later, college.
What will my middle school student learn in middle school math?
The 6-8 standards are organized using domains, overarching ideas that connect topics across the grades, clusters that illustrate progression of increasing complexity from grade to grade, and standards which define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. These standards include skills and knowledge – what students need to know and be able to do, as well as mathematical practices – habits of mind that students should develop to foster mathematical understanding and expertise. The 6-8 standards are organized in the following domains:- Ratios and Proportional Relationships,
- The Number System,
- Expressions and Equations,
- Functions,
- Geometry, and
- Statistics and Probability.
Having built a strong foundation in K-5, students are prepared for robust learning in geometry, algebra, and probability and statistics in middle school.
Course Overview is Provided Below - NOTE: HCBE teaches every concept/skill found in the course overviews listed below, however not always in the same order. Consult your student's teacher if you have questions.
