Tommy Stalnaker Aquatic Center
Announcements & Important Updates
About the Facility
The construction of the Tommy Stalnaker Aquatic Center was a joint effort between the Houston County School District, Houston County Government, and the cities of Centerville, Perry, and Warner Robins. For the daily operation, the Houston County School District and Houston County Government are in collaboration to provide this new facility as a space for the community to come together for both recreation and competitive swimming events.
The 39,000-square-foot facility features a
50-meter competition pool with state-of-the-art pool and timing technology to
host competitive swimming events as well as lap swimming. The 25-yard, warm
water program pool features expansive entry steps and a zero-entry ramp. It
will be used for beginner swim classes, aqua-aerobics, as well as additional
water activities. The building also includes a classroom space and locker
rooms.
The center is named after Tommy Stalnaker,
former Chairman of the Houston County Commissioners. He served Houston County
for 50 years: 38 years as an employee of the county and 12 years a
commissioner. He began his career on August 15, 1972, serving as an
employee for 38 years. Then, the citizens of Houston County elected him
as Chairman of the Houston County Board of Commissioners with his term
beginning on January 1, 2011. He served 12 years as Chairman, retiring on
December 31, 2022. Chairman Stalnaker had a clear vision to improve the
quality of life for all residents, and the citizens of Houston County will be
forever grateful for the impact he made on our community.
